Blogs vs. Traditional Web Pages

When you get right down to it, a blog is just a webpage...right?

When looking at a webpage, it usually does not change all that much.  Blogs are fluid documents that sometimes change every few seconds.  Blogs are in a sense, an online journal.  Webpages  are static and don't allow the reader to contribute to the information being provided.  Plus, Blogs are usually linked to an RSS feed so followers can easily stay updated to the information provided by the blog and contribute if they wanted.

  1. Blogs are also more interactive, participatory and collaborative than traditional web pages. What other differences to you see between the two in the area of promoting self- expression?

  2. Websites are usually made by companies and the information that website puts out is filtered so it puts out only what the company would like to put out. Media websites are filtered to only show what the media would like to show. Blogs can be exteremly personal and raw. There are no filters or complanies to approve what is being said. Blogs are a true form of unedited expression. As a blog reader I am also able to chyme in and tell my opinion on certain topics as well.

  3. Because blogs allow anyone who wishes to share their thoughts to do just that, blogs become extremely collaborative as well as interactive for the user. Blogs are the evolution of websites. The accessibility of websites is extremely limited as well. A user would need to purchase software licenses or pay an annual license fee for access whereas blogs are completely free and allow the ability to fully personalize the site as well as the information.

  4. "Free" is one of the favorite words in a teacher's vocabulary. No need to ftp html files to remote server. Although, there are some free php web site design programs out there that allow you to add a blog right inside your site. Weebly, comes to mind.
